* WHAT IS A DIRECTED STUDY?
The purpose of a Directed Study is to provide an opportunity
for a student to engage in intensive study with a faculty member.
* WHO MAY ENROLL IN SOS 3399/SOS 4399?
SOS 3399: The student who enrolls in this course must have a junior standing (>60 hours), a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and at least a 3.3 in the specific area of directed study.
SOS 4399: The student who enrolls in this course must have a senior standing (>90 hours), a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and at least a 3.3 in the specific area of directed study.
* HOW ARE DIRECTED STUDY COURSES ARRANGED?
The student creates a project plan with his/her professor. This is to include a brief summary and an outline of the work to be completed. These materials (including the proper departmental application form) are then submitted to the Department Chair and the Dean of HSS for approval. Upon approval, the student may then register.
* SEMESTER GRADE AND WORK DEADLINES
Work is to be turned in to the professor prior to the last full day of classes for that semester (before the reading days). A grade will be assigned by the professor and recorded by the department chair.
** Students may apply in no more than a total of two non-traditional courses toward one degree.
