The mission of the UHD Psychology discipline is to provide students with learning experiences that increase their critical thinking skills, facilitate their acquisition of the body of knowledge inherent in the study of human behavior, equip them with an understanding of research methodology, and prepare them for employment or graduate study. Psychology faculty are committed to engage in scholarly activities that support ethical, quality, and creative research designed to refine and extend the body of knowledge that constitutes the discipline of psychology. Faculty members are committed to promote a view of psychology as a discipline that can advance self-understanding as well as understanding of self in relation to society and to impart awareness of and sensitivity to issues that affect the quality of life in society. Finally, faculty members are committed to educating students about human diversity so that graduates are prepared to work in an increasingly diverse and interconnected world.

Psychology Club
The Psychology Club is a social organization composed of Psychology majors and other students who express an interest in the field of Psychology. The goal of the club is to increase understanding of the field, facilitate interaction among students, and enrich students' social experiences through recreational, service, and academic experiences at the University of Houston-Downtown.
