Professor James joined the full-time faculty at the University of Houston-Downtown during the fall 2004 semester. Prior to that time, Professor James taught within the department as an adjunct lecturer. Professor James teaches courses on American Government, Constitutional Law, Civil Liberties, and Comparative Law. In addition to his teaching duties, Professor James serves as Pre-Law Advisor for the Department of Social Sciences.
Professor James earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Washington School of Law and his Bachelor of Science, cum laude , from Prairie View A&M University. Before entering academia, Professor James served as Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Damon J. Keith, United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Prior to his clerkship, Professor James specialized in corporate and securities law as an associate for the law firm of Bracewell & Patterson, L.L.P.
