Description of Internship
Refugee Services Internship – An internship with Refugee Services would include valuable and rewarding direct client contact in various areas of the refugee resettlement process. This position is flexible to allow the student to best use her/his talents with an opportunity for experience in the service that most interests her/him. A few examples of the type of work that an intern can be involved with include: preparing clients’ homes for their arrival, welcoming clients on their first day of arrival, assisting with Cultural Orientation or other job preparation courses. A student who speaks one of the client languages (Arabic, Amharic, Bhutanese, Burmese, Kirundi, Farsi, Spanish, Somali, or Swahili) is highly preferred.
Criteria for Interns
The internship with Refugee Services is unpaid. Due to client interaction, we do require a criminal background check. This internship requires a high level of self-management, solid writing skills, and advanced knowledge of basic computer software including Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer and the like. We welcome students from all Social Science majors and students from all backgrounds. We are a culturally and ethnically diverse office and anyone who works here must have respect for all peoples from all backgrounds.
