Organization Description
The mission of our school is to enable young children with special needs to be independent We strongly believe that children with special needs can lead a healthy and productive life. Our objective is to identify the strengths and weaknesses of individual children. We will strive to promote the strengths while overcoming the weaknesses. We will focus on the following five core areas; language, cognitive, academic, social, and behavior to help each child succeed in their everyday lives and become an integral part of our society.

Description of Internship
Interns will assist with the following tasks:

• Assist and follow through with goals for each child in small group time (assignments will be prepared by the lead teacher)

• Address any issues regarding each student with the lead teacher

• Assist in cleaning up the teaching areas (wiping down tables, organizing toys)

• Assist in handling and operating assistive technology device for students when appropriate (lead teacher will show how to operate and activate each device)

• Be open to learning how to work with children with differing disabilities

• Assist in preparing and organizing snack time and lunch time

• Assist in toileting/washing hands when necessary for all students

• Assist with clean-up at the end of the day

Criteria for Interns
Creative, organized, dependable, personable, hard worker, likes working with children. Open to all Social Science majors, but sociology and psychology majors may benefit the most from this experience. Intern must be able to work during the hours of 9 am to 1 pm.
