Organization Description

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a Catholic lay organization which offers person-to-person service to the needy and suffering in the tradition of its founder, Frederic Ozanam, and patron Saint Vincent de Paul. Members are drawn from every ethnic and cultural background, age group, and economic level.   Organized locally, the society collaborates with other people of good will in relieving need and addressing its causes. Description of Internship
There are a several areas for internships:
a) Intake/Client Services Intern - assists SVDP Village with phone intakes, maintains log of class, may assess and refer clients, designs and implements Phone Intake Forms, assists with teaching of educational classes (refer to Contact #1)

b) Special Works Assistant Coordinator – visits pantry sites, assists pantry coordinators with maintaining proper guidelines, creates database of all food pantries/hours of service/member information, reduces bulk food for family size, etc. (refer to Contact #2)

c) Resource and Referral Specialist - assists with phone intakes, maintains log for client assistance, may assess and refer clients, designs and implements Phone Intake Forms, assists with educational classes (refer to Contact #2)

 

Criteria for Interns
Hours of service: between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, some computer knowledge; good communication skills, neat dress - pants, jeans, tee shirts (no messages), blouses, etc., no open-toed shoes. Open to all Social Science majors, but sociology and psychology majors may benefit the most from this experience.
