Providing far more than just one-time assistance with a particular English paper, the UHD Writing Center is here to guide you through all your essay and writing needs.
The Writing Center provides one-on-one conferences to help improve student writing in any subject and any writing assignment. Conferences are available with either faculty or peer tutors. During 20 - 30 minute one-on-one conferences, the writer discusses his/her specific concerns with the instructor or tutor, then they work together to resolve problems in their writing. Each conference is identified as a discussion of initial planning, planning, late draft, post grading, invention, idea draft, editing, or portfolio.
In addition to these general conferences, the Writing Center offers important courses to improve student writing skills. English 1101 assists students in passing the writing section of the state- mandated TASP examination.
For the developing writer who needs extra attention in becoming a more competent writer, the Writing Center offers English 1105. The Writing Center also can help prepare students for the Writing Proficiency Exam, a university requirement for graduation.
The Writing Center provides numerous learning aids to assist the student in the writing process. Available are writing textbooks (for English courses and reference) and pamphlets on TASP and essay writing. The Writing Center also has many easy-to-read pamphlets that explain specific grammar and sentence structure issues and include grammar exercises.
