Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies: BS (ISS)

The Interdisciplinary Studies Degree offers the students a broad-based, flexible curriculum in the arts and sciences so that the individual may design a course of study to meet his or her interests and needs, both personal and career oriented. The College of Humanities and Social Sciences supervises the program of studies leading to the Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Interdisciplinary Studies. Course work in support of this program is offered in this college (including the departments of Arts and Humanities, English, Criminal Justice, and Social Sciences), as well as in the Computer and Mathematical Sciences Department and The Natural Sciences Department which are in the College of Science and Technology.

Many different types of students benefit from the BS-ISS degree. Some students are working professionals who need a degree to advance in their company. Other students have upper-level work in a variety of different fields, and the BS-ISS degree allows them to finish in a more timely fashion. For other students, the BS-ISS degree allows them to combine interests and gain proficiency in specific career areas that are difficult to obtain with a traditional degree. For example, a student may be interested in both science and professional writing or psychology and speech. Although the BS-ISS degree is the most flexible degree the College of Humanities and Social Sciences offers, some restrictions do exist.
