All students must take and pass the Writing Proficiency Examination after completing 60 semester credit hours and before completing 75 semester credit hours. Transfer students with 75 or more hours must attempt the examination during their first semester at the university.

To register for the exam,

•  register in Student E-Services for UHD 9000 as you would for any course or, if class registration is closed, go to Records in N330.

•  go to Testing Services in S280 to select an exam time.

( http://www.uhd.edu/admissions/testing/WPE/about WPE.htm) The purposes of the examination are to determine if students have retained the language skills learned in their lower-division composition courses, and to ensure that students proceeding to upper-division work possess college-level writing skills.
