Spring 2008 Graduation & Commencement Guide


The College of Humanities and Social Sciences looks forward to joining you in celebrating your graduation this semester.  The University of Houston-Downtown Spring 2008 Commencement exercises will be held at Minute Maid Park, home of the Houston Astros on Sunday, May 18, 2008 at 11am.

How do I qualify to participate in Commencement?


Undergraduates & Graduates:

Any student who plans to graduate from the University of Houston-Downtown must file an application for graduation with the degree-granting college and with the Registrar's Office. Deadlines for filing applications and paying fees are announced in the calendar published in each Class Schedule. A $50 graduation fee is required at the time of filing the application.

In April, you will receive a letter accepting your graduation application and a commencement card. To RSVP, please return your commencement mail card to room 1015-South by April 18, 2008. If you are unable to return the card to the office you may fax the card to 713-221-8928, or mail it to:

Only students who complete all degree requirements and file an application for graduation with the degree-granting college may participate in the commencement exercises. The final decision on eligibility for graduation and participation in commencement exercises rests with the appropriate academic dean.

For more information, undergraduate students contact the college advising staff in 1014S. Graduate students should contact your graduate program advisor.

We make every effort to insure that all graduating students are in the Commencement program.  However, please be aware of the following information: If at any time you have requested privacy protection for your academic records, your name cannot be published in the program by law unless you have indicated on your application for graduation that you desire your name to be included in the program.

To check if your records have privacy protection, you may contact either your departmental advisor or the Registrars Office, N930, 713-221-8999 or by email at uhdrecords@uhd.edu.

Note: To remain eligible to participate in commencement, remain enrolled in all required courses. Student who drop required courses from the current semester will be ineligible for participating in commencement. Official conferral of your degree by transcript and diploma also will be contingent upon your successful completion of all degree requirements and courses by the end of the semester.
