Students will master Elementary I material through role-playing,
games, music, and movement with this methodology that addresses
visual, audio, and kinesthetic learning modes.
Note: This course covers the same material as SPAN 1401.
Together with SPAN 1402 or 1602, it provides freshman foreign language
credit for degrees requiring a foreign language.

to learn Spanish language and culture more quickly with Accelerative

Spanish Conversation through Literature (3-3-0)
Prerequisite: Completion of SPAN 2302 or 2312 or placement by
examination.
This course combines the study of literature in Spanish with the
study of spoken Spanish. Students will read and discuss in Spanish
selections of literature in various genres. They will learn to analyze
while improving their spoken Spanish. For this reason, ample time
will be devoted to students' discussion of assigned readings.

Professional Oral Communication
Prerequisite: SPAN 3301 or permission of instructor.
The study and practice of formal oral usage of Spanish. Development
of communication skills in professional scenarios such as: meetings
with clients, job search interviews, presentations at conferences,
debates, professional meetings, etc. Designed to provide ample opportunity
for students to gain confidence and ability in the formal aspects
of communication including the academic variety of Spanish. Taught

This course will focus on the translation between English and Spanish.
Special attention will be given to the use of idiomatic expressions,

Prerequisite: SPAN 3301.
Neighbors and Trading Partners: People, Culture and Trade in Spanish
America will take a comprehensive look at the people and culture of
select countries with strong economies in Spanish America, with an
emphasis on understanding their importance as trading partners for

This course introduces students to the study of Hispanic literatures
through a survey of representative texts from Spain and Spanish America.
Students learn basic techniques for literary interpretation through
analysis of the four major literary genres (narrative, drama, poetry
and essay). Taught in Spanish. |

Prerequisite: SPAN 3301 or permission of instructor.
Analysis of nineteenth-century to present-day literature written in
Spanish by authors of Spanish American origin in what is today the

Descriptive and contrastive study of the phonetics, phonology, morphology

Special topics in Spanish language and literature, such as contemporary
