Do I need to have any Right of Way experience or take any prerequisites before starting the ROW program?

You are not required to have any Right of Way experience or take any prerequisites before starting the ROW program. The program covers a broad range of topics which will equip you with the necessary knowledge to be successful in this field.


Is it necessary to take Module One first before taking the other five modules?

You do not have to complete the six modules in any order.


Can I substitute my education and experience for any of the modules?

Unfortunately, we do not offer waivers to modules based upon education or experience. You must successfully complete all six modules, no exceptions.


Will I need to purchase class material for any courses?

All class materials are provided to the student for the course.


How will I get books and course information?

The week before class begins, you will receive an email with your login information to Blackboard. All course materials are located on Blackboard.


Do you offer online professional Right of Way classes?

We offer all six Right of Way modules online. For more information, please visit our schedule page.


What is the nature of the online module?

The online program is designed to keep you involved through discussion boards, on-demand and interactive content, short videos, and weekly assignments. You must progress through these items based on the course’s weekly schedule and instructor’s due dates.


Do the online modules require that I log in at a certain time?

The online modules do not require you to log in at a specific time on any day. You may complete your lesson during the week when it is convenient for you, as long as you keep pace with your course’s weekly schedule and meet your instructor’s due dates.


Can I get Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for this certificate program?

Unfortunately, FAFSA is not available towards the ROW Certificate. The ROW Certificate Program is a part of a continuing education program, and financial aid is only offered for academic courses.


What happens if I fail a module?

You will have an unlimited amount of attempts to pass each review quiz and 5 attempts to pass the final exam. If you do not pass the final exam after 5 attempts, you will not receive credit for the course. You will have to re-register and pay the full amount to make up the module and receive a passing grade in order to receive a ROW Certificate.


Will I be guaranteed a job in the ROW field upon completing the program?

Unfortunately, we cannot act as a placement agency but the university does have free resources available for resume writing, cover letter writing, and interviewing skills. However, many companies are increasingly seeing the value of the program and many students have reported improvements in their careers as a direct result of completing the program.


Are there any resources available to assist me in career placement?

Please visit www.uhd.edu/career/. There are workshops available though out the week and some Fridays. The website has resume and cover letter handouts that you might find helpful. Some services, such as individual appointments with career counselors are not available at this time.


Is this certificate program approved by the International Right of Way Association (IRWA)?

Each class can receive Recertification Credits from IRWA for the Senior Right of Way Professional (SRWA) Designation. At the end of each module, a Certificate of Completion will be provided by Contract Land Staff with the IRWA Recertification Credit via email.


How do I obtain a receipt to submit to my employer for reimbursement?

You will need to direct any payment or receipt questions to Johnny Nguyen at the Applied Business and Technology Center (ABTC). You may reach him by phone at 713-221-8032.


Does the Right of Way Certificate award any academic credits from UHD?

The Right of Way Certificate is not a degree seeking program. It is offered by the Continuing and Professional Education division of the UHD College of Business. Its goal is to develop the skills needed for succeeding in the ROW profession. Upon completion of all required courses, students will receive the UHD Right of Way Certificate. The successful completion of this program does not award credit for UHD undergraduate or graduate degrees.


Are students following noncredit continuing education programs registered as UHD students?

No, students following UHD continuing education programs are not registered UHD students. They are following noncredit programs and certificates offered by UHD’s continuing education division.
