The expectation of the MSME Advisory Council is that the proceeds from the annual MSME Conference, after expenses, will be deposited in to the MSME Scholarship cost center to be used to support students who need help in paying the $24,000 program cost. The primary goal of the council is to support persons who have the capability not only to succeed in the MSME graduate program but those who have the potential to succeed in becoming a top Security Management Executive.

Student Scholarship Awards:

The amount of any scholarship is contingent available funds. The MSME program will establish standard funding for each scholarship in the amount of $3,000 for the term of one Calendar year. Should sufficient funding be available, the scholarship awards may be increased to a maximum of $6,000 each.

Student Scholarship Eligibility:

1. Texas Resident

2. Formal admittance to the MSME program.

3. Good academic/professional standing

Criteria used for scholarship selection:

The following information will be considered for scholarship awards:

1. Qualitative and/or supplemental information including but not limited to

  • Written material in support of scholarship application
  • Letter explaining impact scholarship award would have on applicant's personal and career goals
  • Letters of recommendation
  • Academic and/or professional preparation in the field of study

2. MSME Scholarship Committee Ranking:

  • Consideration of assessment of MSME admissions criteria, including:
    • Undergraduate course work
    • Admission application letter
    • Supervisory experience
  • Ranking according to program admissions committee
  • Diversification of field by gender and ethnicity

3. Continuing students in good standing will have the following additional information used in considering their applications:

  • Progress in the program: hours of coursework, completion of required courses, timely completion of incomplete courses (carrying two or more incomplete grades over two semesters is grounds to disallow an application).

Notwithstanding the above, the Committee reserves the right to consider other information, or limited sets of the above information, if in their judgment such information would result in a more equitable competitive distribution of scholarship funds.
