Professional Land Management Certificate Program title

PLM Home

The University of Houston-Downtown College of Business has been actively involved in the petroleum land management field since the early 90’s. Since 2010, it offers a non-credit Professional Land Management (PLM) Certificate specially designed to address the growing demand for well trained and skilled land management specialists.

The UHD PLM Certificate is the result of the ongoing partnership between the College of Business and Petroleum Education Workshops, the premier educational and training center for oil and gas personnel.

Skills-based Curriculum
Students are required to complete six one-month courses to obtain the UHD PLM Certificate:

Flexible Program

UHD offers two PLM courses every month, one online and one face-to-face. Students can choose either type, or combine both delivery methods to suit their preferences, work schedule or other considerations.  To receive the UHD PLM Certificate, students must complete and pass all six courses in any order.

Relevant Learning

PLM courses are accredited for 12 continuing education units (CEUs) to maintain the professional certifications awarded by well-known organizations: the American Association of Professional Landmen (AAPL), National Association of Lease and Title Analysts (NALTA), and National Association of Division Order Analysts (NADOA). The PLM program has also been used by a great group of professionals as a way to successfully complete the certification exams offered by these organizations.

Proven Results

Since 2011, UHD has awarded the PLM Certificate to more than 900 professionals and many more have successfully completed at least three courses. The program has increased salary and improved career opportunities for landmen, lease administrators, division order analysts, field brokers, lease and title analysts, GIS specialists, attorneys and other professionals interested in understanding the PLM field.

The Distinctiveness of the UHD PLM Certificate

Terrill Williams

"Whereas, others had offered training for just landmen and attorneys, our courses reach all facets of petroleum land management including division order analysts, lease administrators and land techs. This is one of the reasons for the program's success. Currently, several Houston based oil and gas companies send all of their land and land administration personnel through the PLM Certificate program."
–Terrill Williams, PEW President and PLM Instructor
