The College of Business has over 20 years providing quality energy education and training. Its energy programs are recognized by several national associations including the American Association of Professional Landmen (AAPL) and the International Right of Way Association (IRWA), National Association of Lease and Title Analysts (NALTA), and National Association of Division Order Analysts (NADOA). It offers flexible continuing education noncredit certificate courses that provide professional development and career advancement. Individuals seeking to expand their knowledge in the energy industry can choose between three certificate programs or take individual energy-related courses as desired. The certificate programs currently available are:


  • Advanced Petroleum Land Management:

    This noncredit certificate program provides an in-depth study of valuable and essential topics for intermediate to advanced PLM personnel.  It addresses the professional development needs of land management professionals with 3 or more years of experience in the field or professionals with less job experience who have obtained a PLM certificate from an accredited education institution.   Its curriculum has been designed in response to the need for continued and deeper training in the areas of curing title conflicts, legal aspects surrounding petroleum land, the rapid growth and usage of technology, ethical standards for land personnel, environmental concerns facing our industry, and our Nation’s fascination with renewable energy.

  • Professional Land Management:

    This noncredit certificate addresses the growing demand for well-trained and skilled petroleum land management specialists.  It aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the petroleum land management field for professionals who would like to enter the industry or who are already in the energy land management field and are seeking formal training to advance their career. This program covers several essential topics for petroleum land success including: the fundamentals of petroleum land, property and mineral ownership, basic contracts, calculating oil and gas interests, petroleum land practices and how to become a great negotiator.

  • Right of Way:
    This noncredit certificate develops the skills of those interested in entering the right of way profession and succeeding in this highly-demanded and expanding field. Courses contain the topics, tasks, challenges, strategies and hands-on information required by individuals who plan on working in the Private Sector of Right of Way.
