SBA.GOV site - U.S Small Business Administration Since its founding on July 30, 1953, the U.S. Small Business Administration has delivered millions of loans, loan guarantees, contracts, counseling sessions and other forms of assistance to small businesses. SBA provides assistances primarily through its four programmatic functions. (from their site).

Lots of local offices. You'd probably be surprised to see the names of some of the no longer small businesses that have been assisted (Cisco, Microsoft). I know I was.

 

 

The mission of ACCION Texas Inc. is to provide credit and service to small businesses that do not have access to loans from commercial sources, and to provide leadership and service to the micro-lending field on a national level.(from their site).

Acción Texas can help with financing for start-ups or expansions when banks can't. They do require some collateral but are very creative in that regard. Their goal is for you to become so successful that banks start wanting your business.
