UHD: Planning for the Future

During the past year or so I have communicated to you some legislative and environmental issues that have a direct impact on the future of higher education. These issues pose both challenges and opportunities for UHD that must be considered as we plan for the next five to ten years. To that end, I am pleased to announce that UHD has contracted with Academic Leadership Associates to lead a campus-wide strategic planning process during the coming fall semester. This is a crucial step for UHD and I ask you to join me in undertaking this important project.

The process will be an inclusive one with most of the contributions made or solicited by a Strategic Planning Leadership Group. This body will include representatives from all of UHD’s constituencies: students, faculty, staff, administration, alumni and community members.

While this group will consist of between 30 and 40 individuals, I want to assure you that everyone who wants to will have an opportunity to contribute to this project whether or not you are nominated to serve on the leadership group. One of the ways everyone will be invited to participate is by monitoring the activities of the leadership group online and commenting and critiquing draft planning documents as they are produced.

I hope you share my excitement and enthusiasm for this important effort. Please join me on August 30 at the Fall 2007 President’s Convocation where I will formally introduce the strategic planning process.
