Mission Statement and Activities

The Office of Research & Sponsored Programs (ORSP) reports to the Assistant VP of Research & Sponsored Programs, Dr. Sandra D. Garcia, and works in concert with the Office of the Vice President for Administration and Finance, David Bradley.

ORSP's mission is to assist University faculty and staff in obtaining sponsored project funding and in the successful completion of sponsored projects in order to maintain a constant funding cycle for UHD projects. The combination of the teaching and research missions of UHD will ultimately enrich the entire academic environment of our university and promote the success of our students.

 

UHD - Sponsor Relationship

Awards for sponsored research projects are made to the University of Houston - Downtown, which is identified as the Grantee in award documents. It is the primary responsibility of ORSP to serve as intermediary between the sponsor and the Principal Investigator (PI) for the purposes of negotiating changes in the project budget, modifications, date extensions and other administrative items.

The Principal Investigator (PI) or project director has the responsibility to carry out the technical work on behalf of UHD and to operate within the administrative and fiscal terms and conditions imposed by the sponsor, UHD, the State of Texas and any other applicable entities. The PI authorizes all expenditures of grant funds within the required constraints and subject to approval by UHD and works with UHD to submit financial reports and audits.

This website is dedicated to informing and educating potential PI's and staff of the policies and procedures required to successfully propose and if funded, operate a project sponsored by a funding source outside of UHD.
