  • Applied Business & Technology Center offers continuing education classes, which provide both personal and professional growth opportunities for not only the public, but for UHD faculty and staff. They offer courses in Computer-Aided Design, Multimedia Training/Web Design, Comp TIA A+, and Microsoft Desktop Applications. Part-time and full-time staff and faculty receive a 20% discount.

 

  • The College Release Program (CRP) is an educational benefit for full‐time, benefits‐eligible staff that have completed their initial probationary period. If eligible, staff may receive up to three (3) hours per week release time from normal duties to take credit‐bearing courses toward a degree plan at an institution of higher learning.

 

  • Continuing Education offers corporate and individual training on a variety of topics, including language classes, business and professional training, healthcare training, personal enrichment, job readiness, occupational skills, teacher/educator programs, technical training, and test preparation. Some discounts are available for faculty and staff.

 

  • The Staff Education Reimbursement Program is a reimbursement benefit for full-time, benefits-eligible staff that have completed their initial probationary period. Employees must earn a “C” grade or better in credit‐bearing classes at UHD or an accredited institution, are employed at UHD through the official close of the term, and have no financial obligations to UHD or other components of the UH system. If these conditions are met, staff will be eligible to receive staff education reimbursement up to $659 for one undergraduate class or $764 for one graduate class, on a first come, first serve basis.

    Employees enrolled in undergraduate classes at other accredited institutions of higher learning will receive staff education reimbursement for one class at the UHD undergraduate rate of up to $695 or their accredited institution’s rate, whichever is less. Employees enrolled in graduate or doctoral classes at another accredited institution of higher learning will receive staff education reimbursement for one class at the UHD graduate rate of $800 or their accredited institution’s rate, whichever is less.

 

  • On-Site Work/Life Seminars are available to staff and faculty on financial, wellness, and family issues. Employment Services and Operations sponsors these seminars.

 

  • Skillsoft’s Skillport  brings learning to your desktop. Skillport is a learning management system that offers online courses, online books, instructor led training, simulations, express guides, test prep exams, mentoring, skill briefs, job aids, and much more.  Click on the link and get started!   • UTEAP is UHD’s Employee Assistance Program. It provides a “Lessons for Life Learning Center” that can assist employees in building skills, problem solving, and improving their life at home and at work. Other services include: Mental Health, Personal Development, Wellness, Management and Workplace, Health and Behavior, Parenting and Childcare and Aging and Eldercare are some of the features of the Learning Center.

 

  • W.I. Dykes Library supports UHD faculty and staff with teaching and classroom support, research and publishing, and library services. It is located in the One Main building on the 4th and 5th floors. They also provide computer workstations, study rooms, and presentation practice rooms. The library houses leisure reading books, browsing magazines, DVD’s, CD’s, and more. These can be checked out with your UHD ID card. UHD employees also have access to University Libraries at the University of Houston and the University of Houston-Clear Lake.
