Compensation

Compensation is an integral component of Employment Services and Operations, as it is the area responsible for establishing and implementing university policies and procedures that ensure an equitable and competitive pay structure at UHD.

Some of the services offered include job reclassifications, benchmarking, internal/external equity analysis, and job description formulation and maintenance. Our fundamental goal is to create a compensation program that attracts, employs, and retains a talented and qualified workforce.

In our continual effort to provide these services and meet our goals, we have recently concluded a compensation study in collaboration with Deloitte Consulting, LLP. As a result of the study, UHD has a new set of pay structures, and updated job descriptions, all of which are available for viewing in this page .

Performance Management

Oversight of the employee performance management process is also an essential function of Employment Services and Operations. Employee performance management includes:

  • planning work and setting expectations
  • continually monitoring performance
  • developing employees’ capacity to perform (through mentoring, training, etc.)
  • formally assessing employees’ performance annually
  • rewarding good performance (as funds permit)

The performance appraisal system at UH-Downtown has undergone a major update. eAppraisal by Halogen Software was launched in March 2007, replacing the former pen and paper system. eAppraisal is a very dynamic, fully web-based and interactive software that more efficiently assesses employee’s performance and tracks employee’s completion of established goals and objectives. Employees and managers also have the ability to record any pertinent notes, year-round, for reference during the evaluation period.
