UHD.edu TEMPLATE

What is the UHD.edu template?

Basically the UHD.edu template is a web page with certain design elements already incorporated into it that match the design of the main UHD.EDU site.

Tools for editing the template

Web/HTML editors compatible with the template include Front Page 2000, Dreamweaver, and Homesite. The university has a site license for Front Page 2000, and it may be installed on your computer by request by calling the Help Desk, 713-221-8031.

Netscape Composer and Microsoft Word are not compatible with this template because of the way these HTML editors deal with tables.

About the template and how it works

The template's top navigation bar and photo of UHD on the left contain graphics that are stored in the "images" directory in the root folder of the UHD.edu web server. These images for the template are referenced with an "absolute" link to the UHD.edu web server which means that no matter where you post your template-based web page on the Internet, the template will appear intact with all images and with the influence of the officially-prescribed UHD.edu cascading style sheet.

The template uses a cascading style sheet (CSS) to control the style and color of the fonts used on the page. A CSS is a "style guide" for a document that defines the characteristics of different elements of the page - e.g., fonts and colors. It is critical that you retain this CSS on your template pages so that they will match the style set forth by the university.

How to get help with a CSS

There are numerous resources available at the university and on the Internet for CSS help. The TTLC staff will also be able to assist any faculty/staff member with implementing a CSS on your template-enabled web page. Call 713-221-8200 to schedule an appointment with a staff member.

The Technology Teaching and Learning Center will offer training to faculty and staff. Students may attend training sessions offered by the Academic Computing Lab, at 713-221-8540.
